Welcome to Year 2’s class page. The Year 2 Team is made up of:

  • Mx Stevens (Class Teacher) who teaches Monday, Tuesday ,Wednesday and Thursday
  • Mrs Kirkwood ( Class Teacher) who teaches Fridays
  • Mrs Sandhu (Teaching Assistant)

Over the course of the year we are looking forward to watching your child grow and fulfil their God given talents throughout our class. During the year we will guide and encourage your child to engage in all activities and become resilient, confident learners. We are so excited to create memories for your children that will stay with them and help them develop throughout their time at St Patrick’s.

PE information

  • Tuesday and Wednesday are our PE days.
  • Children should wear PE kit and trainers.
  • Jewellery must be removed. Where possible, please leave earrings at home on PE days.

Year 2 home/school partnership:

A Home/school partnership is essential to a child’s success. Here are ways to support your child at home:

Reading is a hugely important part of your child’s learning journey. Please read to, and with, your child. Sharing stories is fantastic for developing vocabulary and stretching understanding.
  • Your child will have a reading diary and a reading book.
  • Reading books should be brought to, and taken home from, school every day so that teaching staff can read with your child.
  • Reading books will be changed once per week, usually on a Wednesday. Reading books must be brought to school on a Wednesday.
  • Children should read their reading book at least 3 times per week.
         * 1 reading to decode (read the words)
         * 2 reading for fluency (read faster)
         * 3 reading for prosody (read with expression)
We understand that family life is busy, and you may not find time to read the entire book. Reading a few pages is still greatly beneficial.
  • Please sign a short comment in your child’s reading diary.
  • Children are encouraged to read books beyond their school reading books. Any books your child reads can be recorded in their reading diary, we love to know what reading adventures they have embarked upon!
  • Writing
Handwriting can be supported at home through playing!
  • Playing with playdough can help to develop the muscles needed for handwriting!
  • Tracing letters in different substances (such as sand, flour, rice, salt, shaving foam or slime) can help improve letter formation.
  • Stamina for writing can be built up through, for example, writing short stories, a diary, dinner menus, or questions to ask favourite characters.
  • Spelling
  • Spelling lists are sent home every Friday to be practised for a spelling test the following Friday.
  • Maths
  • Your child has a login for numbots and timestable rockstars on which they can play maths games.
As a team we are here to support you and your child. You are welcome to contact us via MarvellousMe, through the school office, or on the door before and after school.
